Hello,

Eva is beautiful! My baby girl gets called a chocolate lab on a daily basis also. I find it hilarious that people try to argue and TELL you that YOUR dog is a lab, when it is a GSP. My Muddy is nothing like a lab, and does not look like one at all. She looks very similar to your Eva….she is glossy brown with a tiny white patch on her chest and some white mixed into her tail and back hair. I find it amazing how smart GSPs are, as well as loyal and protective. My girl is only 5 months old now, and I love her to death. I have had her since she was 4-1/2 weeks old.

We thought our very large black rescue hound was a mixture! Maybe a bit labrador, maybe a bit Great Dane…? Today out walking we met a another black GSP…Baloo has a heritage!!! We had never heard of the breed or seen another dog like ours. He is such a lovely pet, intelligent, obedient and with loads of character and now we know he is a GSP.

Try telling folks about your year old black shorthair with an uncropped tail.
We have had labs for the last 16 years. The same guys. One field and one conformation.
There is no chance when you live with a shorthair you will ever mistake it for a lab.
Our new boy Buddy does not have one laid back gene that we have found.
I love the new experience.

i just stumbled across your site here while trying to figure out what kind of breed my dog Mischief is! i just got her from the shelter and she was listed as a “chocolate lab mix” but i have a yellow lab and they look nothing alike. Shes looks very much like your Eva with the white patch on her chest. Except Mischief has 3 white feet and the very tip of her tail is white too. I just wanted to thank you for posting this info its helped me a lot! It doesnt really matter what breed of dog she is, i love her just the same. But people ask and i never know, so now i do!

Thank you for sharing – and may you have many happy years with Eva!
I am learning about GSPs, as we’re pretty sure my girl, Layla, is half.
Then again, she may be a Wiemardor as mentioned above! I first thought black lab/whippet cross, but my vet pointed me in the GSP direction.

Absolultey smiled and laughed my way through your post – and from my mutt-loving perspective – who cares what Eva is as long as you and she bring each other joy, right?

Hi,

Eva is beautiful, we also have a GSP who also gets mistaken for a choc lab. However the best one was when i was asked if he was a Wiemardor (apparently that is a cross between a choc lab and a wiemaraner) I just had to laugh.

GSPs are a beautiful breed and we wouldn’t have anything else.

Eva is indeed a beauty and looks so much like my Scout, who also happens to be mistaken for a chocolate lab almost every day we take it with a smile and gently say, no really she is a GSP just like her older sister (who happens to be liver and roan). They exclaim some of the similar comments you posted above which made me smile. So congrats on Eva – the beauty and thanks for telling the story.

Love GSPs, they are smart and loving and just a bundle of joy to be around.
